History In 1941 the Finnish Modesta of J.W. Paulin, Viipuri was taken over by Britain and transferred to the Ministry of War Transport (MoWT). 
Notes on loss At 08.31 hours on 25 Apr, 1942, the unescorted Modesta (Master James Robertson Murray) was hit in the #2 hold by one torpedo from U-108 and sank within 12 minutes about 110 miles northwest of Bermuda. The ship had been missed by a first torpedo at 05.17 hours. The master, 16 crew members and one gunner were lost. 19 crew members and four gunners were picked up by the Belgian Airman and landed at Bermuda.
