| Notes on loss | At 19.04 hours on 4 May, 1942, the unescorted Eclipse, dispersed from convoy ON-87, was torpedoed by U-564 off Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The Germans observed how the tanker settled by the stern until resting on the bottom in the shallow waters. The ship was later salvaged and towed into Port Everglades. After temporary repairs towed to Mobile and returned to service in December 1942. | ||
