Notes on loss The neutral Silja (Master Knut Jensen) left Gibraltar on 5 February and was reported missing thereafter.

At 20.59 hours on 10 Feb, 1940, U-37 fired one torpedo at a steamer, which was struck in the aft part and broke in two. The stern sank immediately and the foreship followed after a few minutes. This must have been the Silja
