Redesignated as a utility carrier (CVU 11) on 1 July 1958 and reactivated as a aircraft transport on the same date.
Underwent transport conversion and operated with civilian crew under MSTS control as T-CVU 11.
Redesignated as an aviation transport (T-AKV 40) on 7 May 1959.
Mined and sunk 2 May 1964 in Vietnam (sunk by a enemy frogman at Saigon dock who planted a bomb on her hull).
Raised on 19 May 1964.
Returned to service 11 December 1964.
Placed out of service on 10 March 1970.
Stricken 15 September 1970.
Sold and scrapped in 1971.

The German submarine U-117 was sunk in the North Atlantic, in position 39º42'N, 38º21'W, by depth charges and a Fido homing torpedo from five Avenger aircraft of the US escort carrier USS Card. U-117 was resupplying U-66 at the time of her loss. U-66 managed to escape. (see map)
