Personal information

Hasso Stegemann came to the German Marine in the end of 1939. He came as Kadett to the Marine - school Flensburg - Mürwik, the same school were his father has been Kadett and later teacher. His Father, Fregattenkapitän Fritz Stegemann died in 1920 in Kiel, he was one of the first men killed at the "Kapp-Putsch" when he tried to calm down the revolting Workers and Soldiers.

Stegemann became an officer on a "Schnellboot". This boat was attacked in the Atlantic by English aircraft, but a part of the crew was rescued. After that he was awarded the Iron Cross 1st Class (EK 1). He then joined the U-boat arm in October 1941 and became the 2nd Watch Officer on the famous U-106 until August 1943. Stegemann then moved to the 27th Flotilla until November when he went through Baubelehrung training in Nov-Dec. Briefly a 1st Watchofficer on U-1227 then moved to U-boat commander training from Dec 1943 until Feb 1944.

In March 1944 Hasso Stegemann got his first U-boat command when he took over the U-367. Roughly one year later his boat was lost off Hela while escorting a convoy with only 2 months left of the war. There were no survivors.
